Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Mursion is a mixed reality environment that allows preservice teacher to practice classroom management skills by teaching avatars. This mixed methods study evaluated the effects of student-led teaching experiences using Mursion on 25 undergraduate special education juniors’ readiness to manage a classroom. Results indicate that following the Mursion experiences, most participants perceived: that they were better prepared to teach, that Mursion was an effective way to practice new skills, that the avatars seemed like real students, that they had move confidence to manage undesired behaviors, and that they felt like they were in a real classroom. Implications indicate that the Mursion experiences are helpful in increasing preservce teachers’ perception of readiness to manage a classroom but more research is needed.
