The Collaboration of Multimodal Literacy With Transnational Culture for Local and Global Engagement

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Multimodal literacy connected local to global culture through multimodal analysis of texts, images, audio and audiovisual representations for digital communication. This mixed-methods study shared the research-based practice to implement and explore multimodal literacy practices for inspiring teachers, transforming literacies, and collaborating local with global resources on transnational culture. Findings from multimodal literacy practices inventory, oral protocols, projects, and teacher narratives led to envision power and possibilities of multimodal literacy to prepare literacy teachers for the school and community. Implications from classroom observations and teacher self-development reports illustrated how preservice teachers engaged students in digital spaces to research transnational culture, locate community culture, critical evaluate, synthesize and communicate global practices, products and perspectives to the local community using multimodal literacy practices.
