Canadian Teachers' Beliefs About STEM Education

Abstract

This ongoing project evaluates teachers’ beliefs about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in three provinces of Canada. Interviews and document analysis were the primary data collecting activities, and analysis focused on identifying teachers’ beliefs about STEM, and relationships between these and STEM texts they used. Discursive themes of Innovation, STEM Skills, Environmentalism, and Accessibility were observed. Discourse described by these themes constitute particular techno-scientific and economic assumptions, and these will be discussed in the paper.
