Abstract

In the United States, young people of color are under siege. The school to prison pipeline, poverty, and racism, are some of the systematic inequalities that they navigate (Anyon, 2014). The challenging conditions that youth of color face have historically been met by their resistance. In my qualitative research paper, I describe how adult youth workers from People for Change (PFC) used their power to follow youth leadership and to engage in activism with young people to fight for educational change. I conclude with recommendations of the ways in which adult - youth power dynamics can be modeled after the relationships at PFC.
