Are Health Care Workers Prepared to Make Decisions in Technology-Rich Environment?

Abstract

This study explores the readiness of healthcare workforce at different levels of educational attainment to work in technology-rich environment. PIAAC data is used to gain understanding of levels of technological proficiency of healthcare workers, their use of computer technology at work and at home. There are significant disparities between technology skills of healthcare workers by education level, with those at the lowest education levels having the least technology skills. The importance of providing technology training to all staff members is stressed.
