Doctoral Student and Stakeholder Collaborations: An Applied Evaluation of a Large-Scale, Student Teacher Support Program

Abstract

PhD students enrolled in an intensive, applied program evaluation course conducted a formative, consumer-oriented evaluation of a large college of education’s student support program (SSP). Evaluators and stakeholders engaged in evaluating the SSP’s purposes and objectives, whether purposes and objectives were being realized in practice, the SSP’s strengths and challenges, and common trends among students being served via the SSP. Evaluators collected all data via institutional data and through self-reported perspectives of students, faculty, and staff engaged. Findings support the expansion of SSPs and components elsewhere; hence, implications are likely most important for internal and external audiences of college of education faculty, staff, and leaders, in general, but also with specific interests in field-based teacher preparation and support programs.
