The Effects of a Short-Term Follow-Up Professional Development on Secondary Science Teachers' and Students' Science Practices in Rural Schools

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The unique context of this study provided an opportunity to examine the effects of a short-term follow-up PD on 16 middle and high school science teachers in rural schools and their student outcomes after their participation in a comprehensive PD the previous year (PD1). The results showed sustained effect sizes a year after PD1 suggesting the impacts on the teachers’ outcomes due to their participation in a follow-up PD (PD2). Results of student outcomes showed clear differences between middle and high school students in the effects of their teachers’ participation in the two PDs.
