Understanding Music Education in a Global Context: Music and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This study was designed to understand the status of music education at schools authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Using administrative data from all IB world schools (n=3,192) for a seven-year period, we determined what school characteristics were related to whether or not a school would offer music and created a demographic profile of music students in the IB. We used logistic regression to understand the relationship of individual characteristics and the probability that an IB DP student would elect a music course.
