An Analysis of Potential Predictors of Writing Performance on the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program

Tue, April 21, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Multiple regression models were developed to predict the overall writing performance of 3rd to 5th grade students on the state test based on CBM measures total words written, words spelled correctly, correct word sequence and incorrect word sequence, variables of MAAP -Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (Development of Ideas, Writing Organization, Grammar and Usage, and Mechanics), and the overall ELA MAAP scores for students with and without learning disabilities. The overall ELA MAAP variable explained the greatest amount of variance in the overall writing score for all students and students with learning disabilities. Writing CBM measures correct and incorrect word sequence significantly predicted MAAP overall writing scores for all students, but not for students with learning disabilities.
