Abstract

We acknowledge the history of language suppression based on federal language policy in Navajo communities. (Reyhner, 1992; US Department of Education, 2018). From this perspective, we ask, “How do we build on this socio-historical foundation to support culturally sustaining and revitalizing communities of practice for teachers of Diné language?” This inquiry is based on a theoretical model of culturally sustaining pedagogies (Paris, 2012; Lee & McCarty, 2014)
