A Grounded Theory Exploration of Student Motivation for Attending Transnational Universities in Vietnam

Sat, April 18, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the motivations of students for choosing to attend collaborative transnational universities (TNU) in Vietnam. Using grounded theory methodology, we seek to answer our research question: what influences and motivates students to attend a collaborative transnational university in Vietnam? In our preliminary analysis, we find that student choice is affected by multiple overlapping aspects, including the influences of: globalization and global culture, future outcomes affecting university choice, faculty engagement and active teaching, and English language instruction.
