Video Diary in Teacher Training First School Practice

• In Event: Integrating Technology-Informed Field Experiences to Improve Preservice Teacher Preparation

Abstract

The aim was to find out what, in the opinion of teacher students, are the advantages and disadvantages of using video for learning purposes compared to written diary, whether written or video diaries are preferred and what are the justifications for their choices. Data was collected from teacher students, analyzed with qualitative and quantitative content analysis. The advantages of video diary format: pass on genuine emotion; change to written tasks; faster compared to writing; show the work environment; get used to yourself; good to watch in the future. The disadvantages: technical issues; choosing a place; logical structure; nervousness to perform; hesitations of possible video circulation. Video diary posts were watched and commented more than written diary posts.
