The reproduction of hegemonic masculinities in educational systems has been critiqued, including in outdoor and environmental education. Several outdoor education scholars have called for investigation into hegemonic and non-traditional masculinities in the field. In this ethnographically inspired case study, male-identifying outdoor educators were interviewed about their perspectives on masculinity. In addition their practices were observed to shed light on the diverse ways in which they perform masculinity in various outdoor education sites. Artefactual information was also collected from participating organizations to provide context.
