Integrating Culturally Responsive Social Justice Pedagogy: A Case Study of an Online Ed.D. for Instructional/Professional Leadership

Abstract

This narrative / case study examines the integration of culturally responsive and social justice pedagogy into an online EdD. This study was conducted over a 4 year period with 4 cohorts in a 51 hour online EdD focusing on instructional / professional leadership. This narrative case study offers themes, issues, and suggested strategies for online doctoral program development enhanced through a culturally responsive / social justice framework. Issues and themes include linking culturally responsive social justice pedagogy with urban education issues found in K – 12 school settings, ensuring support of students an faculty when addressing issues of race, ethnicity, gender, and economic status, and providing the needed knowledge, skills, and dispostions for instructional / professional leadership.
