In recent years, there has been an emerging interest in investigating the roles of affective factors and personality traits in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study investigated the relationship between self-oriented perfectionism and English learning burnout among Chinese college-level EFL learners (N = 561) in mobile learning environment. The results showed that: 1) self-oriented perfectionism did not directly predict English learning burnout, but the relationship was mediated by grit and language learning anxiety; 2) self-oriented perfectionism positively predicted grit, whereas grit negatively predicted English learning anxiety, which, in turn, positively predicted two components of burnout (emotional exhaustion and cynicism) in English learning; 3) grit also negatively predicted another component (reduced academic efficacy) of burnout in English learning.
