Mixed-Methods Study of i-Ready in Seventh-Grade Mathematics: An Inquiry Into Affordances and Equity

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper presents results from a mixed methods study examining the implementation and effectiveness of edtech products in 7th grade, focusing on i-Ready. The qualitative data in this study include nearly 150 7th grade students in six math classrooms located in two coastal northern Californian districts. The quantitative data drew from 1,759 7th grade students in the two districts.
Overall, this study of i-Ready shows, on average, positive but differential gains for students who used the lesson portion of the tool. The field-based observations we conducted raise questions about edtech tools and examines which students are best served by the technology, in what ways, and under what circumstances.
