"Marginalized by Their Culture": Cross-Cultural Educational Experiences of African Immigrant Youth in U.S. Schools

Abstract

This article presents findings from a study examining cross-cultural educational experiences Black African immigrant youth. Findings show that Black African immigrant experience several cross-cultural obstacles such as language and communication barriers, low expectations from teachers and peers, and marginalization in school environments. This study amplifies students’ voices and concludes with a number of recommendations and pedagogical implications for teachers and teacher educators.
