Capturing Kids' Hearts in a Large, Urban School District: Findings From a Program Evaluation

Abstract

This proposal presents the results of a quasi-experimental evaluation of the fidelity of implementation of the Capturing Kids’ Hearts program and its impact on two outcomes, teacher-student relationships, and student behavior within Wake County Schools in North Carolina. Findings from focus groups, teacher self-assessments, and classroom observations from Capturing Kids’ Hearts schools and comparison schools are reported. Statistical significance tests were conducted on the difference in outcomes using a multilevel regression framework. In light of the findings, implications on practice and policy within Wake County schools are discussed.
