Research on Characteristics of Effective Early Childhood Leaders: Emergence of Relational Leadership

Abstract

There is a need for our nation to commit to provide a comprehensive and coordinated system of early childhood leadership training. Policymakers and practitioners commonly agree about the importance of strong leadership in ECE. This study was based on the premise that early childhood leadership practices has a direct effect on quality of care in early childhood development.
The purpose of this study was to identify sets of characteristics that are essential for effective early childhood leadership and explore the challenges early childhood leaders encounter in an effort to become effective leaders. The grounded theory approach was used to build a new theory around the phenomenon that was being studied.
