How Has the Impact of Trump's and May's Immigration Politics Affected Teachers and Faculty of Color: Workshop Session

Sun, April 19, 8:15 to 10:15am, Virtual Room

Abstract

This interactive session will examine and expose the experiences of teachers and faculty of color during a time when immigration politics are at the center of political agendas. In particular, this session will examine how immigration policies are being positioned against people of color within and outside the USA and UK, and how these policies impact teachers and faculty of color. We share our experiences of racialised policies and politics in two national contexts where immigration and immigrants are seen as problematic to national and cultural identities. We present questions around what is experienced and how we can assist each other, and others, in navigating and surviving hostile national policy environments. By examining how policies target particular communities, we aim to assess the role of migration policies in creating (or fragmenting) socially just and equitable workplaces.
