The results of a meta-analysis on the effects of the parental expectations component of parental involvement are examined for African American- and Latino- youth. Forty-four studies had a sufficient amount of quantitative data to be included in the analysis. The results indicated that the effects of the parental expectations component of parental involvement were quite substantial. Among the notable findings is that the effects were even greater at the secondary school level than they were for elementary school. There is also evidence to suggest that educators often may understate the level of parental involvement among African American- and Latino parents. The significance of these results is discussed.
