The Preliminary Exploration on the Effects of Infusing Scientific Imagination Process in Engineering College

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The study aimed to develop curriculum models infusing Scientific Imagination Process for engineering college, and to assess the effect on students’ creativity and imagination. The participants were six instructors and 139 undergraduates in the engineering college of a research-oriented university in Southern Taiwan. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observation, student feedback and the New Creativity Test (NCT). Data were analyzed by paired-sample t-test and qualitative methods. The results indicated that the NCT-verbal has improved significantly in fluency, flexibility and originality, and the analysis of NCT-figure has showed significant difference after teaching on elaboration. Regarding the student feedback on the curriculum models infusing Scientific Imagination Process, both instructors and students have approved this curriculum an asset in engineering education.
