There is growing consensus among mathematics education field that it is quite challenging for teachers to teach mathematics equitably in mathematics classrooms, especially novice teachers. This study investigated how elementary preservice teachers implemented equitable mathematics teaching practice in authentic field experience. The findings indicate that embedding mathematics methods class in authentic field experience helps PSTs move from imagining what they might do to create an equitable learning environment to actually assume the role of the teacher to work with diverse student populations, and reflect upon their teaching practices to meet the needs of all students.
