Exploring Educators' Roles and Value Creation Based on Daisaku Ikeda's Dialogues

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

To explore what roles educators play and what value educators can create based on Ikeda’s dialogues with scholars across disciplines, we use a theme-based approach to code emerging themes derived from the dialogues. Across 30 interlocutors of Ikeda’s dialogues, three themes and thirteen sub-themes are identified in the dialogues. The majority of the themes highlight the importance of humanity in education. By knowing the roles that educators can fulfill and the values that they can create, the themes identified in Ikeda’s dialogues provide groundwork for the development of humanistic education and can serve as concrete ways to help educators enhance their educational practices in K-12 schools as well as in higher education.
