Let's Make a Virtual Reality Game! A Case of Game-Based Learning Design From a Research-Practice Partnership

Fri, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This design-based research study examines the design process of a VR game-based learning unit through a research-practice partnership (R-PP) between a university and a middle school. The data sources include 700 minutes of design meeting recordings, the lesson plan, design artifacts, and researchers’ reflection notes. The preliminary findings showed that both the overlapping and unique knowledges of the team members had enabled the efficiency of the game-based learning design process. During the design meetings, the design team considered various game design aspects with extensive attention to instructional planning. Also, findings showed that the “defining goals” phase of the design-based research process was less addressed during the design meetings.
