Development and Validation of the Measurement Instrument for Parental Competency of Gifted Students in Science

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the instrument for parental competency of gifted students in science. In order to this, the parental competency was constructed 3 dimensions from the literature review. Gifted students and parents were interviewed to discover the behavior indicators of competency. Then to confirm the content validity, Delphi survey was conducted by 15 experts. As a result, the initial instrument was developed with 45 items. To validate the instrument, online survey was conducted from 512 parents. Lastly, 23 items of the measurement instrument for parental competency was developed with 3 of dimensions and 8 of sub-dimensions. This study provides a reliable instrument for parental competency so that contributes to enhancing it.
