This paper examines efforts to support the development of outside of school (OST) learning experiences in Singapore and New York City. In the process, it explores how the efforts in these different contexts engage the conventional educational structures and practices of the regular school day. Through this examination, we hope to illuminate the possibilities that OST spaces offer for bringing practice, policy and research together to create more powerful spaces for learning.
