Community-Based Servant Leadership: A Case Study of a Belizean Principal in a Remote Mayan Village

Fri, April 17, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Community-based leadership is modeled by a servant leader in Náach, a remote Mayan village in southern Belize. Through this case study, the researchers narrate the work of Joel, an experienced Belizean principal recently assigned to the Mayan village where he and his family serve the community in an effort to develop the academic and life skills of the children, and through the children, the community at-large. The daily challenges faced by the children and their families drive Joel’s work with the goal of enhancing the life in the village. The case study illustrates the work, the passion and skills rural school leaders need to successfully impact the community in which they lead.
