According to recent Nation’s Report Card, the mathematics performance of students with learning difficulties (LD) has showed a decreasing trend. The gap between these students and their peers is getting wider. Model-based learning has taken the center stage in K-12 STEM education. In fact, model-based learning is one of the essential emphases in the Common Core mathematics standards. Given the shortage of math intervention programs that address today’s challenging curriculum standards, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a web-based computer tutor, COMMIT, on enhancing mathematical word problem-solving performance of students with LD. Findings from this study indicated that COMMIT, which emphasizes mathematical model-based problem solving, boosted participants’ performance above and beyond the business-as-usual group.
