In this study we describe the development of a coding scheme for elementary teachers’ instructional visions, to be used across disciplines, based on Munter’s (2014) work on teachers’ visions of high quality mathematics instruction. For our sample of 4 elementary teachers there was variation in instructional vision. For example, one teacher was consistent in her description of the nature of teacher talk in math, science, and English/language arts but another teacher described the teacher posing quality questions in mathematics, and the teacher facilitating student to student talk in science. This coding scheme can be used to identify similarities and differences within and between people to design professional learning or detect change in instructional vision over time.
