Shared governance in higher education is under attack. Our paper explains how community colleges can recommit themselves to shared governance by reframing conflict utilizing deliberative democracy concepts and practices such as interest-based negotiations. We conclude with recommendations for research designed to identify faculty strategies that can lead to positive outcomes benefitting the institutions, its employees, and most importantly, its students.
