Climbing the Walls We Build: Advancing the Influence and Impact of Educational Research in the Public Interest

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Across the social and human sciences, there is a growing consensus that the onset of the Anthropocene could be the crisis to end all crises. The preparation of future educators and researchers must address the drivers of the deep changes underway that are impacting public education globally. It is in this context that a strategic partnership of teacher unions and researchers was launched March, 2019, in Sydney Australia, to collaboratively engage issues such as environmental collapse, the impacts of artificial intelligence and the commercialization of public education. This paper will examine the challenges and the promises of this nascent strategic partnership that navigates the often isolating institutional and organizational structures and cultures of teacher organizations and the academy.
