Automating Research Components to Facilitate Mixed-Methods Research

Abstract

In this presentation, we present two cases studies—one situated in elementary and secondary schools in Southern California and Cyprus and one situated in Austrian workplaces. In both case studies, easy-to-use tools derived from social network analysis have been developed that allow teachers and managers to see the social relationships among their pupils and employees, respectively. The main contribution of this work is that it makes fairly complex analytical processes accessible for a wider audience. This is especially important if seen in the context of mixed methods research, which has high requirements in terms of human capital. Automation may help to alleviate this issue.
