Familial Capital: Influencing Transfronterizx Students to Cross the Border to/for an Education

Abstract

Using familial capital (Yosso, 2005) as a primary theoretical framework, this paper presents findings to highlight the role of familial capital on transfronterizx students’ experiences crossing the border to obtain an education. In particular, findings suggest that family members influence transfronterizx students to cross the Mexico-U.S. border in order to increase their social mobility and to obtain a better quality of life than previous generations.
