Abstract

This phenomenographic study explores the experiences of and lessons from eight primary school principals from Trinidad, regarding cultural responsiveness, and inclusive practices in Catholic schools. Information from this study will shape my efforts to influence the lives of learners challenged with inequitable educational opportunities. I locate this research within the context of AERA’s theme of researchers collaborating with institutional stakeholders. Themes of fairness and accommodation, collaboration, parental support, infrastructure and preferential treatment emerged. This study may contribute to a richer understanding of how some principals understand and utilize culturally relevant materials and culturally responsive discourses in creating and sustaining inclusive school cultures.
