Students' Perceptions of Their Research Capital After a Research Methods Course

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 10:15am, Virtual Room

Abstract

The primary aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a research method course delivered to three different group of students: dual-enrolled, pre-service teachers, and graduate students. Researchers examined student’s research capital (as measured by their perception of the course goals, their research anxiety, research usefulness, and positive predispositions towards research) after taking a research methods course at a public university. The research question guiding this study was: can a research methods course enhance perceived research capital among university students? We found that students' attitudes toward research were positively impacted by taking a research course.
