Down to Earth: Latour, Post-Qualitative Inquiry, and Pausing

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper considers how Bruno Latour's recent call for rethinking political discourse reflects the call for rethinking inquiry in the field of the post qualitative. It outlines what Latour (2018) terms “systems of engendering” and reviews key concepts in the field of post qualitative inquiry. As the paper argues, Latour’s call not only reflects the call of post qualitative inquiry but also provides an accessible entry point into the field. Yet, this paper also “pauses” (Patel, 2015) to reconsider the movement and direction of the field, attending to marginalized voices and notions of responsibility with hopes to critically engage Latour, the post qualitative, and those absent from the field in order enable more diversity and life within the field.
