The ability to overcome motivational barriers and manage motivation—motivation regulation—is essential for learning. This study examined validity evidence for a revised measure of motivation regulation strategies using a sample of undergraduate students (N = 800). Results showed high reliability and moderate correlations among the eight strategies. Confirmatory factor analyses showed an eight-factor model was a good fit for the data. In addition, cluster analysis showed four distinct profiles or different patterns of motivation regulation usage: comprehensive high (34.25%), comprehensive low (29.63%), goal-focused (18.63%), and efficacy-focused (17.50%). This study provides emerging validity evidence for a revised measure of motivation regulation strategies and individual differences in students’ usage of strategies.
