Student-Centered Coaching: A Promising Model of Instructional Mentoring

Abstract

After research found little effect of traditional professional development programs, which are dominated by daylong seminars delivering the same tips and tricks to everyone without considering the department or grade level, on teacher quality, professional training of teachers has shifted to instructional coaching, a customized, smaller-scale approach. However, there is very little research evaluating the effects of instructional mentoring on the professional development of teachers. In this study, it was aimed to examine the efficacy of student-centered coaching, a model of instructional coaching, as a development tool to answer the question if student-centered coaching help teachers get better.
