There is no one-way to prepare teachers to experience and embrace all levels of family partnership for student learning and achievement. Each classroom, school, and community is unique in its strengths, learning needs, cultural aspects, and challenges. This study examined the perspectives of teacher educators from a large urban university in the Southwestern United States in regards to the kind of activities or experiences for engaging diverse families for student learning preservice teachers receive during the program. The study found that there was no separate or standalone course offered to teach how to engage diverse families; however, family engagement topic was integrated into class discussions, embedded in various course assignments, and highlighted during observation/field experience.
