Discussing the Process of Co-Developing a Learning Environment to Support Dialogue and Argumentation for Cultural Literacies

Mon, April 20, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

The purpose of the current paper is to present the process of co-developing (teachers and researchers) a learning environment for younger students (5/6 and 8/9 year olds) to support dialogue and argumentation for cultural literacies through the use of multimodal texts. Five teachers with expertise in dialogue, argumentation and multimodality were recruited to co-develop the learning environment with a group of expert researchers in similar areas. Preliminary findings suggest that teachers need specific structures and instructions to help them design a learning environment, and have the need to link what they are designing with the curriculum they are teaching. Furthermore, the process of co-designing is not straightforward but changes based on the needs of the teachers.
