Abstract

This project addresses the often-unacknowledged positioning power higher education leaders exert through their language choice. Specifically, how campus leaders’ language following the events in Charlottesville, VA in the summer of 2017 positioned Black students on predominately white campuses in the Midwestern United States addressing structural practices that reinforce implicit racism.
