Curriculum Construction in a Multicultural Perspective: The Case of Collaboration of the University With Municipalities in Extension Projects in Brazil

Abstract

Based on a multicultural theoretical approach that values diversity and inclusion in education, the present study argues that university extension projects in such a perspective should be considered a relevant dimension of university public commitment. It aims to discuss two extension multicultural educational curricular projects developed by a federal university in Brazil in partnership with local educational authorities in two Brazilian municipalities. The projects referred to a joint construction of municipal curriculum guidelines geared towards cultural diversity, equity and social justice.The study is relevant comparatively in that it shows challenges and possibilities of multicultural, post-colonial perspectives in actual curricular experiences where researchers and organizational stakeholders collaborate.
