What Happens to Student Creative Self-Efficacy During the First Year of University? A Gender Perspective

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

This article explores the development of student perceptions concerning creativity in the natural research context of a university. Drawing on preliminary data from a longitudinal study collected at two points in time, it analyzes the different perceptions concerning creative self-efficacy of first-year university students from a gender perspective. Results revealed a lack of increase in student self-efficacy beliefs concerning creativity in the case of female students and a small decrease in self-efficacy beliefs in the case of male students. Creative self-efficacy has been found influential in important outcomes such as creative performance and academic projection. The high significance of this construct makes the results of this study have clear implications for the design of specific interventions in higher education.
