Educate Global: Alternative Teacher Preparation Lived and Developmental Experiences at Chinese and Taiwanese Summer English Language Camps

Abstract

Educate Global provides an innovative, engaged learning opportunity by placing teacher candidates at partnering schools in Taiwan and China for hands-on, multicultural experiences. The positive survey results and emergent themes derived from student participant inquiries suggested that the opportunity to live and teach in international environments was very agreeable to most students. The Educate Global field experience appears to have broadened students’ aptitude and confidence to teach all learners; expanded self-perspective toward formal and informal instruction; promoted development of a diversity-based, world view; supported a realized ability and effectiveness in terms of innovative instructional strategies and the practice of these skill sets; and enhanced perceptions of the realities of teaching and the increased desire to become a professional teacher.
