This qualitative study explored how faculty of color described their teaching experiences with campus carry at one Texas public predominately White institution (PWI). Utilizing Critical Race Theory (CRT), this study examined the impact campus carry has had on the academic freedom of faculty of color. Through individual interviews, the findings revealed ways in which campus carry upholds White interests in the curriculum and academia. Specifically, faculty of color participants shared making adjustments to feel safer while teaching controversial topics such as limiting student interactions and self-censorship. Overall, this study adds to the research literature while also informing state and higher education leaders on the consequences such policies have on the academic freedom and safety of faculty of color.
