Toward an Understanding of How First-Year Women Experience Gender in Undergraduate Engineering Classrooms

Mon, April 20, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Women engineering students exist in classroom spaces dominated by men. 32 women engineering students were interviewed three times over their first college year. Findings reveal that women engineering students experience masculine dominant behaviors in the classroom that influence their perception of the knowledge and confidence of men as greater than their own.
