The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of AIW implementation on student achievement in Iowa public high schools. Using pilot study data and state administrative data, this paper explores the impact of AIW implementation through Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression analysis. Results show that the overall AIW implementation has a negative impact on both student reading and math achievement. However, some AIW components have positive impacts on student achievement. For example, student activities in disciplined inquiry and value beyond school are beneficial to student reading achievement. And student behaviors in disciplined inquiry are positively associated with student math achievement.
