This paper outlines the establishment of an indigenous doctoral programme in Washington State (USA) and Whakatane (New Zealand) that was developed with community, by community and for community. The paper outlines the objectives, philosophies and visions that resulted in a unique transformative degree where the key objective was transformation and validation for community, the philosophy was built on views of leadership and change and the visions of those communities to further their own self-determination.
