Learnings From/on the Street: Considering the Educational Experiences of Trans, Queer, and Nonbinary Homeless Youth

Abstract

This paper seeks to understand how education qualitative research accounts for that which gets regarded as “experience” for homeless trans, non-binary, and queer (TGNB) youth. Often, research (as well as political, media, and social attention) focuses on the times and spaces in homeless youth’s lives that stand out as remarkable, whether they be moments of celebration or, oppositely, moments of abjection. Through the usage and adaptation of mobile research methods, this study suggests adaptation of apparatuses of viewing that will help research and researchers better account for the everyday ways in which homeless youth articulate their understandings about themselves and the educational and social worlds through which they move without presenting their lives as immobile.
